Neamț region is roughly the area along the Bistrița river, between the regions of Fălticeni to the north and Bacău to the south, bounded to the west by the mountains and to the east by the Moldova river and the region of Roman. Ethnographically the boundaries are not well defined in terms of geography. Also included in this region is the comuna of Pipirig, which is a small area within the mountains at the head of the river Neamț.
