This photos shows the various stages of evolution of the parts of the Oaș women’s costume from linen to factory made fabric. The two ladies in the middle are wearing white linen chemise with a yoke (cămașă cu platcă), wide gathered sleeves, and separate white linen gathered skirt (poale), with wide waistband. Embroidered decoration on waistband, yoke, cuffs and hem is in black wool. A gathered apron (șort) made of factory produced floral printed material is worn over the skirt.
The lady to the right has replaced her chemise with a blouse made of the same factory printed material as her apron, and the lady to the left has also made her skirt from this material. All these ladies are wearing black factory made headscarves with printed floral border. One lady is wearing heavy black leather boots (cizme). Photo taken in the village of Certeze, Oaș on a Sunday afternoon in August 1997.
