The surroundings of the town of Câmpulung which is situated in a depression within the Carpathian Mountains had special land rights for peasants. The term ocol is from old Slavic for district, alternatively this zone can be termed using the old Moldavian regional name of a Ținut. Note that reference [1] excludes a few villages in the valleys in the southwest which reference [2] lists specifically to be in the zone. The continuation of the valleys in the northwest of the zone are populated by Huțsul (identifying as Ukrainian).
